Many children in the Dallas area have attended their respective private schools for ten years, or more, from pre-k through eighth grade. The concept of moving on to high school for these kids can be exciting, however, it can also be very daunting.
To help ease the transition to high school, a group of Dallas parents formed Junior Assembly of North Dallas (JAND) back in the 1940s to provide an opportunity for their eighth graders, attending private schools, to meet their potential future classmates in a safe and fun setting.
JA is a volunteer organization, run by parent sponsors who form a board and represent each school. Along with a president, treasurer and secretary, the parent sponsors divide up into teams and plan parties throughout the year for the kids. The parent sponsors are asked to chaperone these events as well.
Other Junior Assembly organizations have also been formed to include other private schools in and around Dallas.
Every year membership dues include 2-3 social gathering spread throughout the 8th grade year. The social gatherings allow students to interact with students from other schools allowing an easier transition to high school.
